3 key takeaways
- To remove Open to Work, go to your LinkedIn profile, click the pencil icon on the Open to Work box at the top, and click Delete. LinkedIn does not save your old preferences, so you will enter them again if you turn it back on.
- To hide only the green #OpenToWork photo frame, keep the feature on and change who can see it to “Recruiters only.” The frame appears only when you share with all LinkedIn members.
- Refresh your profile to confirm changes. Once you update your settings, reload LinkedIn to make sure the Open To Work box or photo frame is no longer visible.
To remove Open to Work on LinkedIn, click Me at the top of your homepage, then View profile. Click the pencil icon on the Open to Work box at the top of your profile and click Delete. In the LinkedIn app, tap your profile photo, tap it again to open your profile, tap the pencil icon on the box, then tap Delete.
Delete it if you have accepted an offer. If you are still looking and only want the green #OpenToWork frame off your photo, do not delete anything: change who can see it to Recruiters only. Deleting erases the job titles, locations and start date you saved, and LinkedIn does not bring them back when you turn the feature on again.

How Do You Remove the #OpenToWork Photo Frame on Your LinkedIn Profile Photo?
When you turned on the “Open To Work” feature on your LinkedIn profile, you may have also turned on the #OpenToWork green photo frame on your profile photo. It looks like this:
LinkedIn adds that frame only when you share Open to Work with all LinkedIn members. To keep recruiters finding you but drop the frame, click the pencil icon on the Open to Work box, change the visibility setting from “All LinkedIn Members” to Recruiters only, and click Save.
LinkedIn gives you three choices for who sees that you are open to work:
- All LinkedIn members: everyone, including recruiters and people at your current company. This is the only choice that adds the green photo frame.
- Recruiters only: people who use LinkedIn Recruiter. LinkedIn tries to hide your status from recruiters at your current company, but says it cannot guarantee complete privacy.
- Visible only to you: no one else sees it, and LinkedIn uses your job preferences to tailor the jobs it recommends to you.
Note: You may need to refresh your browser to see your updated profile picture without the green #OpenToWork photo frame.
How To Change Your Open To Work Settings Instead
If you are still looking but the roles you want have changed, edit your preferences instead of deleting them. Click the pencil icon on the Open to Work box, update your job titles, locations, location types, start date or employment types, and click Save. You can reach the same settings from the Jobs tab: click Preferences in the menu on the left, then the arrow next to Open to work.
Can LinkedIn Turn Off Open To Work for You?
Yes. If you stop responding to InMail messages from recruiters, LinkedIn emails you to check that you are still open to work. If you do not confirm, it removes #OpenToWork from your profile until you turn it on again yourself. If the box disappeared and you did not delete it, this may be why.
